Job Overview

We are seeking a visionary and highly experienced Director of Blockchain Security to lead my client's security strategy and operations for cutting‑edge blockchain initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for safeguarding blockchain platforms, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving the development of robust security frameworks that protect both technology assets and customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive blockchain security roadmap aligned with business objectives.

• Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary security team, fostering a culture of proactive risk management and continuous improvement.

• Design, implement, and maintain security controls for public, private, and consortium blockchain networks.

• Conduct threat modeling, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing specifically for blockchain protocols, smart contracts, and related infrastructure.

• Establish and enforce security policies, standards, and best practices for cryptographic key management, consensus mechanisms, and decentralized applications.

• Collaborate closely with product, engineering, legal, and compliance teams to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, AML, FCA).

• Oversee incident response for blockchain‑related security events, including forensic analysis and remediation planning.

• Represent the organization in industry forums, standards bodies, and regulator engagements on blockchain security matters.

• Drive research and adoption of emerging security technologies such as zero‑knowledge proofs, post‑quantum cryptography, and secure multi‑party computation.

• Prepare executive reports and dashboards that communicate risk posture, security metrics, and key initiatives to senior leadership.

Essential Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Cryptography, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).

• Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or Certified Blockchain Security Professional (CBSP) are strongly preferred.

• Deep understanding of blockchain architectures, consensus algorithms, smart contract development, and cryptographic primitives.

• Demonstrated expertise in security engineering, including secure software development lifecycle (SDLC), threat modeling, and incident response.

• Excellent knowledge of regulatory frameworks affecting blockchain in the UK, EU, and major US jurisdictions.

• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills.

Desired Experience

• 10+ years of experience in information security, with at least 5 years focused on blockchain or distributed ledger technologies.

• Proven track record of leading security teams and delivering large‑scale security programs.

• Hands‑on experience performing security audits of smart contracts and conducting blockchain penetration tests.

• Experience working in a financial services or fintech environment is highly desirable.

• Published research or contributions to open‑source blockchain security tools or standards.

Salary & Benefits

• Competitive annual salary paid in Pounds (£) – market‑aligned for senior leadership roles.

• Performance‑based bonuses and long‑term incentive plans.

• Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.

• Generous pension scheme with company matching.

• Flexible working arrangements, including fully remote options across the US and Europe.

• Professional development budget for certifications, conferences, and training.

• Paid parental leave and additional family support programs.

• Access to state‑of‑the‑art collaboration tools and occasional in‑person meet‑ups at major office hubs.

Application Process

Qualified candidates are invited to submit their CV and a cover letter outlining their relevant experience and vision for blockchain security. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an initial interview.

This search is conducted by Spear Point Search: The Search Firm For Capital Markets. We are NOT incentivised to place. We are incentivised to be right. That means we tell clients when compensation is misaligned with the talent they need, we tell candidates when a role isn't what they think it is, AND we walk away from searches that don't have the conditions to succeed. This costs us fees. It is also why people call us back.
